Paște Fericit

Happy Easter from Romania. On Easter Day, the streets were empty. Okay, so a bus or two went by, and so did a car, but the usual foot traffic, out the window, we saw nothing. On the night before, the neighbours could be heard even louder than usual. Laughing, joking, meeting with more people than would be allowed in Belgium or the UK.
At midnight on Easter Eve, church bells rang in Easter Day. Why were the streets so quiet? Well, the shops were mostly closed, it appeared. Easter is THE big holiday in Romania, when people meet with family. Even the Saturday beforehand was pretty quiet, except for a few people going to church. The shops closed early, so everyone had time to prepare for the big get together. Curfews were relaxed for the churches, and banners were held up. church original Church distorted
